Solve : DVD burner problem?

Answer»

I have a sony dvd burner. It recognizes cds but it will not recognize any DVD.
It will not play them, record to them or anything.
A CD is fine in it, but it is like a DVD is totally invisible.
Any program I use tells me to insert a recordable DVD into the drive when there is one in the drive.
Anybody got any ideers as to what the problem might be?
Thanks
BobbyHave you tried going to Sony's website and downloading the latest drivers for your drive?

FlameI have, but can't find any place that would have drivers. Every link is to sell something. I will check again though.
Thanks for the response Drivers are not the ISSUE, as Windows has built in drivers. You can try deleting all the drivers for CD/DVD in Device Manager and reboot to see if that helps.

How old is the drive? DVD's are intrinsically more difficult to read thtan CD's so this may just be a sign of a failing drive. you might see about any firmware updates on the Sony site, but unless this specific issue is addressed, I wouldn't bank on that being a solution.

DVD function in a properly functioning drive is related to the reading and burning software. You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling that.

I suspect you need a new drive.Quote

Thanks for the help. Wish me luck How old is/was it? Had it had a lot of use?Less than a year and not really a lot of use Quote

Possibly FLAME was refering to firmware upgrades.

Find the model number of the drive, and then GOOGLE for a firmware upgrade. It's worth a shot before you bin the unit.
