Solve : DVD/ CD Drive Problem/ Test? |
|
Answer» HI everybody, thanks for opening this topic. I think I have a problem with my CD/DVD drive. The problem is twofold: 1) A recent CD game I have bought runs sporadically. The game is DMA protected and occasionally fails the DMA test until a full reboot is done. I've tried all the DMA troubleshoots. 2) Whenever a refresh a FireFox page any audio CD skips while using WinAmp. Here's the question: Is there any software that lets you "test" the status of your drive? If not do any of you experts think the drive may be the problem? I have had the drive for around 2 years. The current drive is named NEC_DVD_RW ND-3530A and the status is fine in the device manager. I've updated drivers etc. I'm using XP, any help appreciated. Thnx.personally, i would skip the troubleshooting and just get a new DVD burner. they go for about $30 dollars these days...or test it in another computer. Is it just that one game that has a problem? What game is it? And have you downloaded the latest patch for it? Honestly, I never found WinAmp very good at playing audio CDs. Try playing the CD in Windows Media Player and see if it does the same thing. I wouldn't run out and buy a new drive just yet. LIKE Broni said, test the drive in another computer and try the game on that drive in the other computer as well. If you have trouble with WinAmp AND WMP in your computer, try an audio CD in the second computer as well and see if it still happens. This COULD just be the drive, but it could be other things as well, but we'll go one STEP at a time. |
