Answer» I BUILT my system about 3-4 years ago. Pentium 4 2.5 processor 1 gig memory and XP Pro (retail version) . I have a RW CD a RW DVD and a DVD DRIVE and have had no problems. About a month ago when I went to use a blank DVD my drive said it was a CD drive and would not let me use the blank DVD. It is a Memorex true8 drive. I bought a new Sony drive and it did the same thing. I tried changing the drive from slave to master and tried the secondary slave and master to no AVAIL. I have not added any programs or changed anything in over 6 months as this used as my 3rd computer and only for picture/video programs ( no gaming). I have even tried reformatting and installing XP pro with no change. Although in reformatting in some programs even though it says it is a CD drive instead of DVD it will take the DVD and record. I have looked online and have seen many questions on this and most say it is a hardware problem mostly with Memorex, Panasonic and Lite On and was suggested they share parts. Although with reformatting and a new Sony DVD it still does the same thing.
I was wondering if anyone has heard or knows of any REASON why and any idea of a FIX?
