need some help here. i got a brand new sony dvd - DRU 830A . that
doesnt detect dvds but cds in my computer.. it works fine in my
friend's computer.
any advice?
i forgot to mention that this was tested in the kubuntu installed in my computer and there too, the dvds arent being detected.just the cds.
this drive with the same dvd worked fine in my friend's computer (WINDOWS)..

its an intel P4,asrock motherboard- p4i45gv , intel 845gv chipset..
If it is new and it didn't WORK in 2 machines i would take it back for a replacement ASAP...some burners have more than one laser in them and it sounds as if at least one isn't tracking/working properly.problem solved!!!

the computer guy came , and right AWAY he said the prob's with my dvd writer. i said NO.
then he said its windows' ..i said NO
then i said its bios, he said NO
and then he enabled the secondary ide ata/atapi device (something like that ..inside device manager , that was all !!!!!)..

please add your VIEWS or queries..

the dvd writer worked on one machine (my friend's)
