Answer» Hi there, I recently purchased a DVD-RW drive for my laptop...
However, when I have it installed, the MACHINE refuses to boot. At all. It won't EVEN POST.
The machine is an Alienware Area51-m 7700 series, and I have heard rumours online that Alienware MAKE it so you can only install DVD drives that you purchase from them...
A call to Alienware resulted in them "almost" confirming it to me. And they tried to charge me £79-00 for the delivery of a new DVD drive from them...
Well, its been three WEEKS and I still haven't heard or seen anything from them, so they can go bollocks...
My question is this.
Is there a way to bypass that setting? Is that setting contained in the CMOS?
Any HELP will be greatly appreciated...
Kind regards.Proprietary machines (like laptops) sometimes only have proprietary solutions. I would stay after Alienware as they are the only ones that know for sure. Thanks alot.
I will definatly use SLAX to get some of my data back.
Cheers again. I'll let you know how it goes.
