Answer» Hi,
My sisters dvd drive has stopped recognising DVDs. In the past she has had no problem with it and it still reads and plays CDs.
The drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B
I have installed PowerDVD but that hasnt helped. If i INSERT a DVD and go into "my computer" and click on the disk drive there is just nothing recognised.
she is running Windows XP.
Could this be a driver error or is it not likely with it having worked in the past.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
GazMost combo CD/DVD players use 2 lasers, one for CD and one for DVD. If you can not read a DVD in DOS or Windows then it sounds like a hardware problem. Laser MAY be dirty, out of alignment/focus or stuffed. If you can get hold of a laser cleaning DISC it would be WORTH giving it a run
you could also try a FIRMWARE update for that brand drive.
