Solve : DVD Drive sound problem? |
|
Answer» HEY guys, I have installed a new DVD drive into my friend's desktop system which has Win xp2 (I dont remember any more specifications). The drive plays any dvd but there is no sound. I only attached the IDE CABLE & the power cable. There was another slim wire which came with it, but I couldnt figure it out where it goes. Could that be a problem or anything else ? Note: I'm not trying to hear the sound with the headphones. I know that. And also the sound does work on the system as he listens online music.Open Device Manager and open the Properties panel for the DVD drive. Select the Properties tab and check the settings there. You may need to experiment. Here's what mine LOOKS like: Neither my CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive have a sound cord connected to them; the sound travels through the data cable. However, you should have pins somewhere on your motherboard, if using ONBOARD sound, or on your sound card, for a sound cable. If you have the exact make and model of your computer and/or motherboard, documentation can probably be found on the Internet telling you where those pins are located. hi, Thanks for the response. Yeah, the audio is already enabled as shown in the above figure. Well, I dont know if I could find the MB manual (its a p3 machine). I couldnt fugure out then for that other thin wire as I couldnt find that kinda pins on the MB. Anyways, so any other ideas please?Double check all your settings in Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia... Are the speakers hooked up properly ? ?okay, here is the update. All the settings seem to be fine. The music could be played from the music cd but there is no sound from a dvd. I tried playing a movie from different DVDs, it does play but without the sound. I tried the music CD & it plays well. I know its weird, but what could it be now ?What program are you playing these with ? ? There are sound CONTROLS on the bottom of most media player windows as well. Some even have equalisers as well...check under Tools. You could DLoad and try VLC which is free to check if it's a problem with the media player itself.Cheers! It got it working with the VLC. Thanks !! I downloaded the latest version of VLC 0.8.6.c. Is it free ? While installing in the policy i read it said it was a 40 day trial ... Anyways, earlier i played it with the Media Player & some other program(Intervideo ... which was default program from the movie dvd). My question is, why wouldnt it work with the MediaPlayer & the other program? (the sound settings were checked on both).Missing codecs for the player... And yes VLC is totally FREE...Hi, Having a problem again. The VLC player either skips the dvd or makes weird sound while playing it. I tried uninstalling the VLC 0.8.6c & installed the older one VLC 0.8.6b, but still its the same. What could be the problem now ?Any suggestions would be appreciated ....How many other programs are running when you are trying to play DVD's ? Are the discs clean ?Thanks for the response. Apparently, the computer didnt like the VLC. Installed some Power DVD player & it works fine with that. Thanks again, cheers !!Good to hear you're fixed up... |
