Answer» Hello, The problem that I have is the DVD drive will not recognize disks. I have tried both R+/- CD's and R+/- DVD's. written and non, burned and purchased. When I insert a disk the door will close but when I try to read the disk the door POPS open and I get a "insert a disk" message. This problem started today.

Have Tried The following: Reboot the system Ran system restore to before problem Delete and Reinstall the DVD Checked for new driver ( driver that I have is latest)

Thank You Dadtried Insert a BOOTABLE cd (OS CD is fine) and reboot. Does the system see the cd at boot?dadtried, Based on the ifo you provided in your 1st post that optical drive will never recognize or play DVD's. It is not capable. It is a CD-rom. One of these may help: 1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager. Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled. or... 2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 Restart computer. or... 3. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it. Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge. Accept registry merge. Restart computer. or... 4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign NEXT to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers. You'll see two items: - ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel) - ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel) Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm. Restart Windows. Tried All No helpI believe, you're due for new drive Are you saying the system does not see a bootable disc at boot (with the cd at the top of the boot order in bios)? If so, then the drive is shot.I WANT To thank All for your help. Installed a new DVD writer and now have no problem.
