Solve : DVD Drive won't open after Burning?

Answer»

I just bought a sony Dual Layer DVD Rewriter and after I burn an ISO using DVD deycripter, the dvd tray will not open. I have to turn the computer off and restart it to get dvd tray to open.

I have two DVD Rewrtiers installed in my computer and they are both set to the far left one (Not Master and not slave, but the far left one). The one DVD Drive is the same drive that CAME with the computer and the DVD Rewriter I just bought toke the place of a CD Drive.

Why won't the dvd tray open after I burn? Should I try setting one dvd drive to master and the other to slave? Also If this matters, My Hard Drive is wired up with a diffrent type of cable (not IDE).

My computer is a: HP Pavilion a1120nI doubt it has anything to do with jumper settings, but if it is a SAFER bet to use Master/Slave from my experience.

You should be able to open the tray by inserting a paperclip into the little hole near the eject button, however, if it refuses to open the program might not yet be done or perhaps the CD/DVD tray is failing. Are you sure it has completed the burn process itself ? ?
Most burners i've seen auto eject the DVD upon completion although this might not be true in your case.

Do you mean Cable Select (CS)? "Far left" is a meaningless description.

Okay, thanks for the info. I will try one drive on master and the other on slave.

And I thought it made sense. I said its not on master or slave but on the far left one.

Also I have used my other DVD drive with the same program and it opens after. The program (DVD Deycripter) says that the ISO has been burnt successfully. So my old drive would work after but new drive won't. So Its most likely not the programs fault. The problem might be that everything is on the left...I just set the one drive to master and the other to slave and it now works.

There are three settings - Master (MA), Slave (SL) and Cable Select (CS). Where they are located depends on the manufacturer, not the compass.

If everything worked FINE before, but not since the drive was added, it is either a hardware or configuration ERROR.
