i use sony dual rw drive.

i have no idea what model THATS wha tit said on the FRONT. when ever i put a disk in, it says incorrect function. but when i take the disk out, it SAIS please insert disk. my cd drive works fine but my dvd drive wont run any disks.

Seen lower end combo DVD-CD Drives do this before if generic brand, and you need to instal driver for drive to be recognized as a DVD Rom drive and not just a generic CD Rom Drive.

Would help if you could open your system to give us the model # of the DVD Rom, as for there are tens of thousands of different DVD Drives out there.

what says "please insert disk"? are you trying to install a game?How old is this drive ? ?
It MAY be failing or the DVD laser is shot. This would produce the symptoms you are having.
To test it SWAP it into a known working computer and see if it does the same thing.
If so...it needs replaced.
