Solve : dvd playing greyed out?

Answer»

I must be very careful changing settings on computer. Children are homeschooled and this is their only computer to use for sos classes. However, I recently installed their mp3 players and windows media player 11 on my Microsoft windows version 5.1 XP computer with service pack 2 and now the dvd slot will not recognize any dvd movie. Media 11 doesn't acknowledge a dvd and powerdvd player just says "No disc in drive" this is driving me insane! Please help? Can this drive read DVD disks with data like DVD Games etc? This will tell us if the drive itself has an issue.

Ive seen combo CD/DVD drives act up before trying to play DVD Movies, but Windows will think it is a PLAIN old CD Rom and not a combo drive. In My Computer you should be ABLE to look at the drives and confirm that it is showing up as a DVD Drive.

Please post back with your results and we will go from there...

DaveSee, if VLC Player will work: http://www.videolan.org/well, downloaded your suggestion said"Unable to open dvd": any other suggestions I'm all eyes. Ha ha.You may WANT to try your DVD player in another computer.I've tried 16 dvd's all work on tv and nana's computer just not mine in fact when I dug into this LITTLE irk.. my comp said I need to associate the dvd with in my folder options because they are not in sync or something. Doesn't seem right for one thing the dvd disc is not a folder don't wont it in a folder just want the darn thing to play a movie like it did 2 months ago. Oh yeah, I refreashed this contraption all the way back to it's birth in BABY steps trying movies each step of the way and the movie media(all three roxy, quick, media 11) still have dvd options greyed out, and yes I've tried to restart and run on start up game too. Nothing. I am so out of my league here.Quote
