Solve : DVD-R Problem? |
|
Answer» Hey everyone. I'm new to the board, and I have this annoying problem with my DVD-R. I had the same problem with my old CD-R's and I never knew what caused it. It would also be way cool to know what burning software you happen to be using... Haha.. If you're talking about the writer it's a Samsung SH-W162Z, and I had it for about 4 months now. As for the software, I'm using Nero, but I think Windows does the same thing when I drag and drop.Go to Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager...find the burner in the device list. Right click it and select Remove. You will get a warning message ignore it. Re-boot the machine and Windows will automatically install the drivers for it. If this fails i would try re-installing Nero...I tried both, and it didn't work. I'm pretty sure it's Windows related because it goes away every time I format and re-install Windows. And I don't think it's any other program because I didn't install anything lately. For some reason, while burning a CD, the buffer keeps going to 97% then DROPPING to like 13%, then back to 97% again and so on. Why would it do that? Is it in some DOS COMPATIBILITY mode or something?Replace the burner...how old is it ? ?It's pretty new, I only got it a few months ago and I didn't use it that much either. I noticed something else that might give a clue to what's going on. When it's burning, the whole computer feels like it's slowed down, like everything takes longer to load. This never used to happen before when the burner was working fine. Could this be like a memory or addressing problem or something?Have you read the below site?Read what you do then use "Guided Help" This is a auto fix program for upper and lower filters. "Download Guided Help" Note We recommend that you uninstall all CD recording or CD writing programs before you delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values. You can reinstall any programs that you use after you resolve this problem. Guided Help is available to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems. Guided Help can automatically perform the steps for you. SNAP!Believe it or not, but sometimes it depends on the media you use. Read over the specs of your burner to see what kind of media that is recommends you use. I usually buy what is on sale at Office Depot. When I buy some bad media, I have to slow my burner speed. If not, I make a lot of coasters.I've got a Samsung 16x burner, but I burn DVD's at 4x usually, (CD's at 32X or lower) and never a coaster! It slows for a second or two when the burning starts through Nero, but that's it. It SOUNDS like a hardware fault. Some people find joy seeking out a firmware revision for the drive. Also, are you running in DMA or PIO mode? (It's in the Nero settings.)street1, I'm interested in checking out this Guided Help thing that you mentioned, but you didn't provide a link. Think you could post it? I have a feeling that the upper and lower filter thingy just might be the trick. EZFrag, I'm sure it's not a media problem because now even the things I burned ages ago are being read at a much slower rate. And while they're being read, I get that constant heaviness on my PC, like I'm running a very heavy program, when in fact I'm not. And again, this didn't used to happen until recently, but since it happened once, it's been like that since. GX1_Man, I think we've got the same burner bro. I've been burning CDs and DVDs at regular speeds just fine with no errors until that happened. And it's the same thing that happned with my old CD burners, that was fixed by reinstalling Windows. This time I want to forego the re-installation, and try to fix the problem manually. So I doubt it's a hardware problem. One thing worth mentioning though since you mentioned firmware, my last writer was an ASUS 52x and it did the same thing as this one a few times. What I found out I could do with it though was that when I changed its firmware (just re-installing the same version), it would go back to reading and writing normally. That's the alternative I found for not reinstalling windows. I tried to do the same trick with the new one but it didn't work. I HOPE that gives you guys another hint to the problem... |
