Solve : DVD RAM acting like DVD ROM? |
|
Answer» I bought 5 DVD RAM discs quite awhile ago and saved some files. Now I want to re-use them, but http://www.videohelp.com/dvd I'm aware of this site, and ALTHOUGH I'm not trying to copy DVD videos, I'm checking the forum there anyway in the meantime. All I am trying to do is to delete files from the DVD RAM, and drag and drop files onto it. Both actions are refused. The dvd ram disk......is it a re-writeable one?The dvds are "Panasonic 120 min rewritable/video recording DVD-RAM"s. Just as I'm typing this, I thought it might have something to do with them being for video recording, but that doesn't explain why I had already saved data files onto them before. I thought I figured something out by rightclicking the E drive, choosing properties, then recording (windows XP). Here I found thatunder DESKTOP CD Recording, the box "Enable CD Recording" was unchecked. So I checked it, and tried to copy files. They began to copy, but only as an image, and the "CD writing wizard" which never came up before, insists "the disc in the drive is not a writable cd or it is full", etc.Are these disks meant for a panasonic dvd recorder??not for pc recording use?coded.....A DVD-RAM is not the same as a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R/W, or DVD+R/W http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/dvdram/prods/faq.htm Quote Are these disks meant for a panasonic dvd recorder??not for pc recording use?coded..... I guess I ultimately don't know the answer to this question. I'll ask the retailer where I bought them. But regardless of the answer, it begs another question. Why was I able to record files onto these dvds before (software, music, etc) and I am still able to read the discs, use the data on the discs, and even copy the data back onto my hard drive, yet I cannot delete any of it nor can I copy (drag and drop) files onto the dvds anymore as I did in the first place many many months ago (even after reformatting). Looking at the above poster's faq, I thought it might be my dvd drive which somehow didn't support the discs. But my computer manual states I have a "super-multidrive" which supports CD-ROM CD-R CD-RW DVD-ROM DVD-RAM DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW I can't help but think there is some kind of setting on the computer that has been inadvertently CHANGED. |
