Solve : E-machine T6420 wont boot up..?

Answer»

The problem is this.
When I turn on the PC all I get on the display is "No signal detected" (monitor is good). The PC acts like its in sleep mode. For awhile I had to turn on/off to get it to boot. I visually CHECKED the mobo and found nothing wrong.
I now have to UNPLUG the PC to turn it off. (maybe a bad switch?)
The following things do run when I turn on PC.
The power SUPPLY fan comes on
The CPU fan comes on
The keyboard lights come on
The HDD light comes on and stay on
The DVD drive light comes on

Things i already tried before booting up PC
Disconnected HDD, and then the DVD drive.
I pulled the CMOS battery and placed it back
Disconnect the mouse

Im really frustated with E-machine reps .. No help what so ever.. Told me to take it to repair shop where I bought the thing.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely it's a motherboard problem. I've run many calls and have ended up replacing BOTH the motherboard and power supply to make it right.

(monitor is good)

have you verified this by testing it on another computer?

the "turn off computer" option in windows does not work?

Disconnected HDD

not really the BEST idea as without the HD you will not be able to load windows.

im kind of out of time right now, but if you answer those two questions above, it would be a great help.I tested the monitor on another PC it works fine.
I can turn on PC with the power button, but have to unplug it to turn off.
When i turn on PC I get a "No signal detected" on the monitor.
Some times the light around the power button will flash on and off. (Wierd)
Im going to try and see if its the power supply. I m hoping that its not the motherboard.

Thanks for helping me....Quote from: somebody on January 07, 2008, 10:23:52 AM
I m hoping that its not the motherboard.

sadly, that is what i am starting to suspect. the video is integrated into the motherboard, you might be able to get away with purchasing an independant video CARD however, though i do not recommend it.

upon doing some research, it appears many others have had problems with thier T6420 motherboards...
