Solve : ECS Initial Boot Problem?

Answer»

HI
Building my 5th computer from scratch and pulling my little left remaining hair out.
Upon power on lights and fans come on. Monitor displays
ECS logo for the MB. No other activity. Cannot access BIOS.

ECS KN1 Extreme MB (new)
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU (new)
512 Kingston PC3200 Ram (Single stick-new)
80GB WD EIDE HD (from previous machine)
Pioneer DVD Writer (from previous machine)
GeForce 7600GS 256MB PCI-e video card (new)
450W Power supply (new)

Disconnected HD, DVD, Monitor - No Change
Disconnected power and removed CMOS battery
for 20 minutes - No change

Any SUGGESTIONS appreciated.

We've got brands for everything except probably the most important item - the power supply. THe power supply is generic, came with box ordered online.
Tks for replying. So I should probably look for a REPLACEMENT?

Boot with minimal devices connected.

There are no 'generic' PSU's. What is its realpower? The psu is a little grey box with a red sticker.
"ATX Switching Power Supply
With the following voltages
DC output
+3.3V - 26A
+5V - 35A
+12V - 15A
-12V - 0.8A
-5V - 0.5A
+5VSB - 2A

No imprint in metal or other labeling to
reveal manufacturer.

ThanxWith the hardware you currently have installed you should get an A-brand PSU.

Not sure if that'll fix your problem, but it will certainly prevent future problems. That WOULD be a good place to start. It may not solve the problem, but you have to start somewhere.Quote

You may find that Mobo will NEED DDR 400 MHz Ram and you may need to repair Windows.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the problem.

400Mhz is PC3200 and Windows isn't even loaded..
