Solve : emachine preloaded with windows xp?

Answer»

i looked at other posts regarding startup looping. my computer is about 5 ysr old, & just now began looping at startup, after the windows xp logo. i can only access the DESKTOP & internet in safe mode. i have tried restore, cancelling the auto reboot, various safemode commands with no luck. still looping. do you think my emachine has had it? i got a suggestion to do a full backup & restore, or should i just use the orig. DISK that came with the computer, or GET a new computer? p.s. no new PROGRAMS were added, it just stays on unattended for long periods, has had a lot of internet surfing & is not shut down properly (kids!?!...) what do you guys think? thanks!!!How do you mean, looping at startup? Does it get to the Windows XP "splash screen" and restart? How FAR does it get into the loading process before it restarts? Also, what are the original discs that came with the computer?I have the orig. recovery disk set that came with my computer. Also, it comes on & at the WindowsXP logo, it begins looping (shutting down & restarting). I have to press the F8 key to get to safe mode. Can you get into Safe Mode?Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on September 18, 2008, 07:30:48 AM

Can you get into Safe Mode?
Guess what? I don't have a quote, but anyway, yes I can get into safe mode. As a matter of fact, that's how I'm accessing my computer & the internet right now.Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

Will it still loop? Thanks Brioni, but I used the orig. recovery disks, wiped the drive clean & re-installed. Now it's working as usual. Thanks everyone! I will remove this topic.Oh, I thought, your disks were missing, that's why you asked...She was motivated to find them, and many of us have been in similar circumstances.
