Solve : emachine T2824 won't turn on.?

Answer»

Some time ago the modem went out on my T2824 emachine. I didn't bother replacing it as I also have a mac. I disconnected the monitor but left the tower inside the desk cubby where it has always been. Today I decided to retrieve my pictures from the tower and reconnected monitor but the tower won't turn on. It was working fine SEVERAL months ago even when the modem went out. Any ideas as to what happened?
If tower has power cord connected to it and live outlet and wont turn on, I'd replace the power supply in the unit. Lots of eMachines had power supply issues that i have worked with. My one eMachine that i gave was GIVEN to me free dead and the power supply just needed to be replaced. For the fact that the modem died... did this computer take a hit from lightning maybe?

If you push the power button and nothing happens, no LEDs light up then swap power supplies. If you have a power LED lit, but system isnt booting then DIFFERENT things can be tried. I am guessing its totally off as wont turn on.Hi, thanks for the reply.
When plugged in  nothing comes on. I tried another power cord but nothing.
Is the power supply unit EXPENSIVE or hard to replace? I don't want to invest a lot just to get my pictures out of it....as for the modem, no lightning or any kind of a power serge that I know of.Borrow one from a friend for overnite and swap it in there...
This won't cost anything but time...
And Dave is correct...eMachines has always been notorious for junk PSU's. Quote from: Donna12054 on November 25, 2012, 06:38:09 PM

Hi, thanks for the reply.

If all you're wanting to do is get pictures off of it and you can't borrow a power supply from someone, then the cheapest thing to do would be to remove the hard drive from the eMachine and place it in an external enclosure, cheap ones available at most computer stores for under $20 (MANY for under $10). Stick the drive in there, plug it into the USB port of another machine, then copy the files you want off the drive. (It should plug in and work fine on your Mac if it's not horribly old.)Thanks for the help everyone!

Guru... I have an external enclosure....got it when I replaced my mac hard drive! lol    OK, I 'll blame my air headiness  on being born a blond...thought I had outgrown it but guess not...
I hooked it up and it worked fine!
