Solve : Emachines T2240 Won't Power On.?

Answer»

My Emachines T2240 (Windows XP) is about 5 YEARS OLD now. I only turn it on once in awhile. It's mostly my router/back up computer. Today it would not power on at all. Checked the plug, tried another outlet. Still no power. No lights. No noise. Nothing. Opened it up, checked for loose wires. Still no power at all when plugged in.

I'm trying to find out if it's a power supply issue or a hard drive issue?

Do you THINK I would be better off replacing the hard drive or should I buy a new power supply?

I'm not so familiar with repairing computers that have died. This is my first computer to bite the dust.

But I'd like to be able to just repair it myself rather than go out and buy a whole new PC.

Thanks! New Update:

My Dad had a few other older emachines for parts laying around. So first we swapped the power supply and we got good power going on the machine but the processor light would not come on.

When we swapped the hard drive with the old power supply we would get a processor light but no power light.

Now I'm just confused. Do you think the motherboard could be the issue instead? I would consider thinking about a new machine unless you want to $$$$ yourself on a EMACHINEI've seen... I was LOOKING at the prices for new motherboards and they are close to $200. You can get a new machine for around $300 nowdays. I was just hoping it was cheap to repair.
