when I boot the pc I get a message saying:

Not ready reading drive A

Abort, Retry, Fail?

What is the reason for this and how is it resovled Is there a floppy in the drive ? ?Yes there is a floppy in the drive.Remove it and power down.
Re-boot.I did what you said, I now have a name and password for windows box, how can I get PASSED it? Has this ever worked ? ?

You haven't PROVIDED very many details here...I am doing a COURSE on computer maintenance, I asked around if any one had an old computer to practice on, and a Friend gave this pc to me, I can assure you they is nothing underhand going on, the computer is not the best, and if I blow it up it wont matter.

The computer wont recognize that a mouse is PLUGGED in, so I having trouble getting anything done, I have got it going sort of but is need of a lot of upgradingI still haven't figured out how to get my computer to give ME a massage.
