Solve : Experiencing Lag?

Answer»

Ok I've been haveing this problem for a while. For some weird reason when I'm playing games like warcraft III or Counter strike source sometimes the game gets super laggy it's so bad that the mouse can barely move at all. Then after like 2-5 seconds it goes back to normal. But in counter strike the same thing happens and when this happens my frames drop to like 5 or 10. I dont think it is my graphic card as when this happened on my Geforce mmx440 I bought a geforce 6800nu. I still have the problems. I emailed the tech support for EVGA and they said it sounds like a ram problem with the video card. I even installed the game to my 2nd harddrive which is brand new with barely anything on it.

Have you tried updating the driver?

You could ALSO try setting the paging file to 2000 Min & Max.

What speed is your drive(s) and how big is the drive cache or buffer?Yup, my video drivers are up to date. The pageing file is at 2000 min and max. The drive is 7200RPM with 8mb Buffer.ctrl+alt +del......>task manager.....disable the proceeses you dont need......like error reporting/remote access/ etc.. or pay the games website a visit for a patch.....768-756=12

Where has the 12 MB of RAM GONE, or is it a typo?

Have you run a test on the RAM?You didnt say if you got more Ram if you didnt , Ram WOULD definatley help.

Make SURE the severs you connect to have low ping.

Dont install games on a second hard drive its best to install on the primary drive or so ive found. what cpu do you have?.something is dragging the system down........do you have any P2P programs....

does this happened all the time....or only when gaming....This is only happening when gaming I don't think it happens any other time. I have a pentium 4 processor. Its weird i dont know whats going on.!Heat or video card problems perhaps? Are you overclocking anything? Have you gotten a response from the game or video card manufacturer regarding this? Are there any updates/patches for the game?Hmm I emailed EVGa about the video card but It still happens on another card. I think maybe I should not overclock my system and leave it at default. All up to date on patches.I think overclocking may be a big part of the problem and something that should have come up earlier as a possible prolem source.

I would never recommend this, unless you just want to have problems or burn up components. Quote

Overclocking is - not - good engineering practice.

Processors are made to run at a higher rate than their sevice rate and so it is possible to overclock them.

However having determined the point at which they fail the processor is then rated at its correct, service, rate.

This same engineering principle is used in car engines as well. An engine which is used in a car may be 'overclocked' (tuned up) but is then over-stressed.

Whilst the engine will last out the race (not always) it won't keep going at the higher speed for 500,000 miles.

Most commercial engines are underrated on purpose to extend the service life, and this is true of processors as well.

Moral. Don't overclock unless you can afford to change the processor and not be concerned about the expense.
It seems that it wasn't overclocked..   I just don't know why I get these problems. I am stuck with 2.4 pentium 4 until I get some more money and upgrade to a better motherboard and processor possibly AMD, because I heard its faster.I don't get it. First you said it was overclocked and then you said it wasn't.

If it was don't. If not wait till you can get a faster chip. I guess you know if you get an AMD you get to buy a new motherboard, maybe some new RAM.....Are these games also running from the cd?
