Solve : Exterior Hard Drive Problems?

Answer»

Hi, I have a problem with a MAXTOR 3000 Hard Drive. I recently put a new hard drive in my CPU. The OS is XP Professional. All my backup data is on the Exterior Hard Drive. When I plugged in my Exterior Hard Drive to move data over to the Desktop I get an identifying sound that it recognized the drive....I also check the device manager and it says that the disk drive is there...but when I check My Computer it does not show the drive...NO F drive. If its a driver problem from Dell.....or microsft to recognize this one I haven't a clue. I've downloaded a number of drivers or software but the downloads really don't identify the exact situation in detail....Any suggestions. This problem is sort of strange and most exterior drives are GENERALLY USB 2.0 and are Plug n Play compatible. Did the drive come with a specific driver CD?What does it show for properties when you right click the drive ? ?

(GX1_Man, you there ? ? )

It is not a driver issue.

Another thing you can try is to remove it from the enclosure and jumper at SLAVE and install it on one of your IDE channels inside the machine and see if it reads the data.

This normally occurs if the machine has been shutdown improperly or the drive has been unplugged without using the "safely remove hardware" option...I'd hate to see someone put a HDD into their CPU... RAW time, Patio.

Was this drive previously FORMATTED as NTFS, perchance?

Raptor, I love that new signature, you HANDSOME devil.
