Solve : External hard drive....?

Answer»

The last few months i've been getting a lot of CRC errors, especially when I'd downlaod a torrent then check it.
So today, I was CLEARING up room on my laptop hard DRIVE, and while transferring files they just stopped halfway through due to an I/O error. Tried copying again, still wouldn't worked. So I restarted, and it wouldn't even show up in my computer.
I restarted again, still wouldn't show up. So I checked device manager and it detected a WDC external USB device. I checked Disk manager and there is nothing there except my own laptops hard drive.
So I tried checking on a couple of friends coumputer and it wouldn't show up.
It also FROZE my laptop starting up when I rebooted.

So is this hard drive a complete loss? Is there any way I could get some files off of it?
Or should I just get a replacement?
Drive sounds blown, but I would swap the USB cable if the cable is replaceable. most of the time the drive is shot, but I have also seen bad USB cables cause PROBLEMS. If you have critical data on this drive you can pay a data recovery center to try to recover the data for you, but it can be costly. I use a software utility called GetDataBack NTFS for blown DRIVES that still spin up. It recovers data most of the time when there is table corruption and the drive spins, but otherwise can not be addressed to read information. I would try GetDataBack NTFS as for they have a try before you buy program to see if it could recovr your files before buying it. The catch is that you have to buy it to actually recover files. Maybe someone knows of a free utility, but this one I bought and it works well. So give it a try and see if the data is there or the drive is totally shot.Well, it actually worked. I'm currently backing stuff up, Imma go get a replacement today or tommorow.
Thanks =]
