Answer» Hi,
I have a Lenovo W550s laptop that has Windows 10/Linux Mint on it. About a MONTH ago, the fan started making a loud rattling noise. I decided to replace the fan but within a week of replacement, the noise returned even louder than before.
I'd like some advice on how to solve the problem. Any advice you could offer WOULD be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info, please tell me.
I've attached as sound bite of the fan for REFERENCE https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4rjnLAA0hh8UjN3c2pLbHlDVVU/view?usp=sharing Might be yet another bad fan. Did you buy this through a company that has a return policy for flawed PARTS? Did you buy and authentic IBM oem part or a knock off lower quality replacement?I bought the part directly from the Lenovo website. They won't let me return it since my warranty has timed out How short of a warranty do they have on this part... just 30 days?
It sounds like your going to have to replace it again if that is the part that is making the noise which is very unfortunate. Usually OEM parts are problem free.Surely the whole machine should still be under warranty, as far as I'm aware most ThinkPads have a warranty of at least 3 years. Not sure if you've voided this by replacing the fan yourself but it may be worth putting the original fan back and see if they are happy to still cover it. You can check your warranty status on Lenovo's website by entering the serial number of your machine.Unfortunately, my laptop's warranty lasted only a year. I checked the serial. For possible reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lxvmay2tn0 No, it is not the same problem. He is working with an Apple fan that will not turn. Watch what he does. It shows how to dissemble a fan. It might be possible take the fan apart and resemble and CURE the problem Maybe. Watch the video.
