Solve : firewire connection won't work....?

Answer»

Okay, I'm a developing filmaker and have purchased and used a Panasonic MiniDV camera for quite some time. We've used it on other computers, and have uploaded video for editing multiple times. However, my computer doesn't have a firewire CARD built in. I went to Circuit CITY and purchased a ADS Dual Link hub (http://www.adstech.com/products/DLX-182/intro/DLX-182_intro.asp?pid=DLX-182) and have also bought a Belkin Firewire cable to connect the camcorder to the hub. However, the system will not recognize anything I put in the firewire slots at all. I've put in USB stuff in the back no sweat, and it works perfectly. I have put in my ipod with it's firewire cable up front, and it recognizes the power to recharge, but does not connect with the computer. I have a 2004 WinXP eMachines AMD Athlon 3000+, with SP2. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, thanks for reading!I have never used Firewire, but I have two suggestions:

1. Enable Firewire in BIOS.
2. Install Firewire drivers.they say it's "plug N play" and no drivers required. it's okay though, because they lied to me at circuit city, this "hub" is not what i need at all. thank you anyways though!Plug and Play means that the Operating System you are using will detect it, not always configure it. It MAY lack the drivers to do so.

Firewire may also be disabled by default or by user configuration in the BIOS. Be certain that is not the case first.
