Answer» So I placed a new fresh from the package CD-R in the D: drive (Thats the DVD-RW on this Computer). I then opened D: and clicked to add a new folder. It gave me a file TYPE error, So I figure it needs to be formated before I can use it. I go to command Prompt and type format D: /fs:NTFS /v:famHistory and hit enter. It keeps saying that the device is busy. Busy? Busy doing what? Now just for the record. I have NEVER formated a disk before. I have never created a CD, Disk or what ever. Up to this point, the only interaction I have had with Drive D: was to place a game disk in it and push the close button. I read the help files to get as far as I did, but they offered no suggestions for "Device is busy" Please if anyone knows how I can place some files on a disk to mail to a family member, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. If this helps: The files will contain scanned documents, Read only.If you are using current version of Windows XP it is not necessary to format a CD-RW disc. Just PUT the disc in the drive. Close the tray. Wait for XP to RECOGNIZE it. Select the files of interest and send them to the CD drive. When you open the CD drive, it will say 'there are dies to be written' and you can figure it out from there. Thank you, that worked. i was trying to do the job in the reverse order. Maybe it's a post count thing where you can't mark solved until you have a certain number of posts recorded. I can lock the thread but I'd rather let it run to see if anyone can throw some light on this little solved problem.
