Solve : Formatting Harddrive??

Answer»

After I format the hard drive, which do I install first?
The drivers on the cd that came with the motherboard, the PRINTER drivers and then Windows XP/SP2, AVG full edition. Also my harddrive has the jumper set at CB(cable select ?)(came that way already installed in computer) can I change that to Master before I install any drivers or WinXP? or do I change it to master after every thing is installed? I would like to add another harddrive(40GB) to my system as a secondary one.
My motherboard is a MSI [emailprotected]
Intel P4 /2.60GHz
80GB HD
512 MB DDR SDRAM
(2) DVD+/-RW
Media Reader 8 in 1
5 USB Ports (4 back-1 front)
56 K- ITU v.92 Ready Fax Modem
10/100 Mbps Ethernet
Ultra V Series 500 Watt ATX Power Supply
(2) Printers/ CX5200 Epson all in one and a Epson photo 870

Thanks in advance for any help.Do not have INTENET CONNECTED. If you have a cable, pull it out. Disconnect any USB devices.
1) Windows
2) Motherboard Drivers
3) AVG and some Spyware protection like Spybot
Connect the cable to the internet.
4) Use Windows Update to get all critical updates
5) Printer and all other peripherals. Follow instructions on printer.
6) Scan your system

You can change the JUMPERS on the cable at anytime (might as WELL do it first), BUT if you jumper the new hard drive you are adding as CS also, then the one on the far end of the cable is Master and the one on the center connector slave. Either way will work fine.Quote

do I change it to master after every thing is installed?

it must be the master to install windows on. either set the jumper on the HD to "Master" ,or set it to "cable select" and place it at the far end of the cable. hence, why they call it "cable select" (see pic below)

Thanks GX1_Man & Homer,
I appricate the help I have gotten from this forum, now and in the past. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Again.your welcome. let us know how it goes.Cable Select and appropriate connections cause no problems for Windows to load. I've done it LOTS of times on a variety of machines. (That's most likely how it was originally done in his case, as it was wired this way and Windows was on it.) When you're completely finished download & install Ccleaner
(During install, uncheck the Yahoo Toolbar option)

Run the Cleaner and also Scan for Issues.

Then Defrag & Re-boot.

Do this on a regular basis and your computer will be happy.
