...DLoad and run the HDD diagnostics FREE from the drive makers site...follow the guide for creating a bootable CD and run the long test...
Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and UtilitiesThanx for the LEGWORK CC...Thanks patio & CC, I'm currently d/l the programs to test and will report back following the conclusion.Ok, so Speedfan was d/l and installed. The program opened and this is the temps that I believe you were referring to. Please let me know if those temps are APPROPRIATE. And now it froze up again on me. Was only on for maybe 5-7 minutes this time after being off for a few hours.

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]Looks like graphics card fan is not working. You mean the fan that's actually on the card itself?

There's two same-sized fans on the card and a visual INSPECTION shows that both fans are SPINNING. I just restarted and will wait for next freeze and see if the fans stop moving. Does Fan1 and Fan2 represent the fans on my graphics card? Thank you. Also checkmate you can save the temps to a textfile i believe and copy/paste them....Another symptom that has come about has been when starting up, the startup screen appears like this. Usually a restart will correct it, sometimes it takes 2-3 restarts until the LINES are not there. It's not on every startup but does happen occasionally. My guess is that it's related to what my epidemic has been.

Fan2=0rpm, but visual is best test.
Fan1 is probably CPU fan, don't know what Fan2 is.

Sure looks like a graphics card problem. So then, is my cure to all this as simple as a new video card?Haven't seen the Temps yet...so never assume.
It may be as cheap as replacing 1 or both fans...patio, aren't the temps on the screen shot I posted up above? If not then, where would I get the temp results for you to see them?Ok, so while I was exploring Speedfan and all it's uses, my comp crashed again and gave me this blue screen with another thing of technical jargon. I googled the ati2mtag.sys and found a wide variety of responses to it, enough to make me more confused. Oh the frustration...
