Answer» I have a Gateway M-1634u with ATI Radon X1270 mobile video running Windows Vista with 1 GB ram, and 128 MB of shared video memory.
This morning, I was using the computer just fine. I shut everything down, put it in my computer case, and went to the library. When I TURNED the computer on at the Library, the screen would not come on, so I thought maybe the inverter had gone bad. However, looking at the screen at an angle under high light did not show the screen working just not lit, so I was not sure. I went back home and attached the computer to an external monitor and the external worked. I closed the lid on the computer, the computer went to sleep, and when I reopened the lid, the laptop screen CAME on normally. I shut down the computer and rebooted. now the screen comes up, but on the black screen at the beginning of boot up shows yellow, the black background windows boot up is yellow, and once windows opens, the taskbar shows normal but there are strange colorings in some places, and some white area's when using Chrome have lots of blue lines in them. I don't know if the video card is going, the screen is going, or what. I just discovered if I adjust the brightness, it helps a little bit. The brighter the screen, the more the distortion is on NON black, the brighter, the less the distortion is on the black.Given this statement " the external worked" if by worked you mean worked normally without any of the issues on the screen as compared to your notebook screen . Then your issue is less likely to be with the video card and more likely to be with the screen of the computer. Have you tried varying the screen resolution? truenorth
