Answer» im STUCK in 16 colours 640-480, i just installed a geforce mx4000 v64 and was trying to get it to work all weekend and then it started to work i dont know what i done, i entered win and started playing games which worked perfectly and then i done something which has made it go back to the way it was before and if i try to put the res up and then restart win loads and i can see the card is working at the password screen but then the moniter goes to standby or something and it wont come back on, i then have to reboot in safe mode then change back to 16 colours, restart and i get in to win again but not with the card working. please help ive been going round in circles and going insane!!
specs
1.3 duron 20gb pcchips m810 mobo 256 ram (Aopen geforce4 mx4000 v64 64mb which im trying to get to work) win 98 se Did you perhaps uninstall the drivers?
Also, what resolution are you running at? CERTAIN resolutions might be impossible for your card or monitor to be displayed and will cause it to crash.i have this same exact problem. i have tried nearly EVERYTHING to fix it. the thing that stumps me most is the fact that the card has this problem is both of my computers. COULD it be a faulty card? and if it is faulty then how come it can work at low resolutions?also i forgot to mention, the card however is different. i own a Geforce 4 Ti4200. These two cards did come out around the same time though.
i think i might attempt to mess with the card some more on my other computer with more extensive bios options that are not available on the one i tried before. or possibly try more nvidia drivers.Malcolm.....The motherboard you list appears to have on board video........If you wish to install a plug in vid card you must disable the on board vid or things won't work.....
dl65 You think your mainboard turns off the Onboard video it's self?
Turn it off yourself if you haven't tried yet.
In my Bios (Phoenix) it's under the 'Integrated peripherals' menu. this is the only options that i have in bois that say anything to do with video
PCI/ Plug&Play setup
Title Options
Plug & Play Aware O/S Yes/No Share Mem Size N/A O/S Control Normal/Japanese O/S Primary Graphics Adapter Onboard AGP/PCI Allocate IRQ To PCI VGA Yes/No PCI IDE Bus Master Disabled/Enabled
Which should i have these set at?Malcolm....Try this .....go "Start"/ "Control Panel"/"System"/ "Hardware"/ "Device Manager" then select Display adapters.....you should see 2 listed .....the on board one and the new one .....hilight the onboard one and right click and choose disable .....now it should have a red X on it ......Now shut down restart and things should work fine .
let us know
dl65 the only thing there is Geforce mx4000 I got it working!!
i uninstalled both my chipset driver & agp card's driver then resarted and installed my chipset driver and then the cards driver then restarted and it started to work and thats all i had to do after spending a week looking for the anwser.
thanks for your help every1Very informative!!! I'm new at this, but I too had the message from Display that says the adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware. I am trying to get my nvidia Riva TNT2 Model64/Model64PRO File Version 4.14.10.4523 to work. I understand the adapter you're taliking about is different from mine, but could the direction you give to fix the problem work for the adapter I have? Thanks in advance !!Let me rephrase that. I was wondering how to uninstall the chipser drivers, and the agp drivers, as Malcolm said in the post before my LAST one. And also to reinstall after uninstalling. If I know how to do that, I think I too may have solved this thing!! Thanks for any help from any of you!!
