Solve : Getting Device Manager to forget device?

Answer»

When re-inserting a board in COMPUTER, device manager recognizes it and does not announce finding new hardware. In order to properly install the driver, Windows must forget it ever saw the hardware.

How do I get windows / device manager to forget it ever saw my WIRELESS CARD?

Eh?What board are we talking about?Un-install the wireless software in add/remove programs...
Remove the device listing in Device manager...
Re-boot a few times and make sure it's gone.I am sorry I was less than clear. The device no longer shows in the device manager and the hardware has been removed. Somewhere inside this overly-helpful operating SYSTEM (XP 2) something remembers the hardware and just installs it again AND assumes the presence of the driver - so that letting the wizard check returns the device is working fine. Grrr.

So, the question remains: how do I make the operating system forget the hardware was ever installed???

By the way, Broni; I do not SEE what the pentium II board has to do with Windows trying to be so helpful. Actually I do not know the mother board or processor that well because it is a loaner until I upgrade to a decent computer and a better operating system.Quote from: Paulen on January 31, 2008, 09:53:10 PM

What device is this? Do you have a good driver for it? Have you tried updating the driver via Device Manager?Quote from: patio on February 01, 2008, 09:11:45 AM
