Solve : GPU fan not starting? |
|
Answer» I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT graphics CARD. Its fan seems to have problems starting up when I turn the computer on. The only way to get it to start is to manually give it a spin. Once I do, it runs without problem. I've closely monitored the temperature levels and have not seen anything EXCEEDINGLY high. I have attempted to clean the fan as best I could, but have seen no improvement. I was hoping to replace the fan and am not sure as to which one to get. Any help with this would be great.Go to newegg web site [fans gpu]Quote from: xavier on September 14, 2008, 11:32:40 AM Go to newegg web site [fans gpu] That's what I was figuring would be the case. I looked around and it seems that none of them are compatible with the 8600gt. I found two that are for the 8600. Is there any difference between 8600 and the 8600gt that would prevent the fan from being incompatible with my card? They look the same but just guessing. Put a call into New Egg & ask them, or call the MFG.I put an email into MSI, the manufacturer of the card, and they simply just said to send it in for service. If I do this I'll be without a card for probably 2-3 weeks. I think it will still be covered under warranty as the card was manufactured in 2007. I did try cleaning the fan myself and in turn had to remove it from the card. Would this void the warranty? If so, what should I do? Is it still worth sending in for repair or is it better to just find a fan myself?Call MSI and ask who is a distrubutor in your area... Explain you cannot be down 2-3 weeks...Are you saying that the distributor would repair it / give me a new one? According to their website the only place that you can send a product for repair is their RMA Department in California. They MAY or may not have AUTHORISED Repair CENTERS elsewhere...only way to find out is asking... Or just have them ship you a replacement fan... |
