Solve : Graphics card installation issues?

Answer»

First my specs:

MS Windows XP Professional
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
System Mode: HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower
System Type: X86-based PC
Processor: x86 FAMILY 6 Model 15 Stepping 13 GenuineIntel ~2399 Mhz
SMBIOS Version: 2.5
System Directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device: \Device\HarddiskVolume1
Total Physical Memory: 2,048.00 MB
Available Physical Memory: 1.19 GB
Total Virtual Memory: 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory: 1.96 GB
Page File SPACE: 3.83 GB

Now then, this is my continuing problem:

I cannot seem to get my new-ish graphics card to work, in that the fan seems to be working just fine, but within the Display Adapters (within device MANAGER) I receive this message: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
I've checked that the card is properly connected to the motherboard already. To note, when I try to install the LATEST graphics drivers which I've downloaded from the manufacturer's official site, I receive this: "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware."

Before I can get the new card to work, I presume I will have to uninstall the onboard one (Intel R G33/G31 Express Chipset Family)?

My new graphics card is:
GF 9600GSO 580M 1.5GB DDR2 DUAL DVI TV PCI-E
JYH077249
PV-T96O-ODFF

Any suggestions would be APPRECIATED, as this is continuing to cause much unhappiness in my life

No, old or unused drivers never have to be uninstalled.  However, you may have to set primary graphics card in BIOS (CMOS Setup), F1 at power up (Compaq splash screen).  It should say "Onboard" & "PCI" under one of the menu items.
