|
Answer» Hi I have computer that keeps having problems, its a computer that ive used since 2003 and its still working. I keep upgrading the PC time2time. So, i get my hands on the hardware sometimes. XPPxp1This isn't an XP version...are you saying it is still SP1 ? ? Been there, done that. From your information I am rather certain I had the same problem. It has to do with the way you install the hard drive. This topic has been well covered before, but many people are just not aware of the problem. The Maxtor site explains the problem and so does the Microsoft site. The CATCH is that you are expected to read that information before, not after you install the hard drive. But no one knows about the problem because most people think the problem was SOLVED. Well, it was solved, but not in a transparent manner. The user still has to do something when doing a install of the Maxtor drive. But it is not really their fault. It is Microsoft that did not finish the job. To know if this applies to you, please tell us what model Maxtor drive is. It can make a difference. Hi again, actually my maxtor harddrive is a Maxtor diamond plus10 7200rpm 160gb and western digital caviar 80 gb. My windows xp version is windows Xp 2002 version. well thats the only windows besides my vista beta 1. the beta can be used ,but when i install in dos mode it just restarts and goes blank and sometimes bluescreen. yesterday it went ok ,but then i went on a online website and it loaded a lot pages freaked the pc out and just crashed. and i come back to the same problem. here some info what i did... install the latest geforce FX drivers ,install all drivers for my hardware and update my windows to sp2.. one thing i found out ,when i install the updates for windows media player ,update windows service pack and install a service pack for IE6 sp1. i found out that makes my PC crach to bluescreen like never before. This never happend. I cant even play a visualisation on Winamp. it restarts automaticaly. Secondly to tell you if you know any doubt what i cant do to save this because besides the problem above that i face. I found out that my GRAPHICS card Geforce FX5600XT fan does not work and the card get very hot. 2.my motherboard circuit near the main power cable the big one on the board like a small black box, just burned off. but i can still use it.3.the mobo cant receive the use of 1 gb of ram pair. because it can support up 2 3gb of ram.ddr400. i change the graphics card to my old pc and works , im using it here now. and i put the maxtor hard drive that keeps clucking off to the old pc . it works fine. so im feeling curious whats causing the problem . because if you guys know what i could do to save my precious hardware. If you do , i can go and buy some new hardware. any ideas , Thanks guys ! try getting a new cooler for the card, if that still doesn't work, then I quote myself for the billionth time: "maybe it's the RAM?". I'm getting tiresome with that phrase aren't I?Quote from: dslgeek on May 28, 2007, 02:56:24 PM Been there, done that. What is this referring to ? ?Hi again what have i missed in installing my hard drive. what can i search on the web that can help my problem. heres the maxtor model ....... MAXTOR Diamondmax 9 160GB ATA/133 HDD (6Y160P0OEM) and Seagate Baracudda ATA III. I tried the maxtor with diffrent jumper setting ,still got the same problem. Do you think its my Motherboard. My Graphics card works fine when i used it in another pc. cant be the graphics. do you think its the mobo.. . Any ideas what will happen if one of the motherboards chip got burned. what will happen? will it still run like normal or have lots of problems! |
