Answer» My hard DISK keeps working like mad non stop. Even if I am doing nothing it is whirrling round like a maniac. Why won't it take a rest now and then.
It lives in a MSI Notebook using Windows XP home.
It has been doing this for months - pretty slowed down too. I have tried defragging, deleting lots of programs and nothing has helped.
ChrisSomething - some process - must be hogging CPU time and calling on HDD non stop. Gotta be.
I know OTHERS suggest better but - checkout Taskmanager and see if you can see any process that is sucking this up. Either alt+ctrl+del or start -> Run ->taskmgr.exe See how ''busy'' CPU appears to be.
Then maybe study what is showing in start -> run -> msconfig
Wonder if you have some malignant infection perhaps too.
Check out a bit deeper and LET us know what you find. How much free space do you have ? What programs are running in the background ? When is the last time you ran chkdsk ?Never stops. Is it always connected to a network? Try to get it off the NET and wait a bit. Maybe somebody on the net is using your PC . But it that does not help, and it f it keeps on, you may have a failing hard drive. The drive is try to FIX itself. Sounds like your hard drive is dying. I would back up all of the important data asap.Infection possible.Meanwhile the drive is working so hard he can't post back...Holy smoke....
