Solve : hard disk problems..?

Answer»

Hi all
I just got a NEW 160Gb seagate HDD but when i put it my computer it does not detect it . I used to have a 120 Gb HDD prior to this which was faulty so i got this as a replacemnet, but the sata cable which comes with this does not fix on my motherboard so i used the sata cable of 120 HDD,does this make any difference?Does it mean that my motherboard is not compatibale with new HDD?

If any additional information is required then please let me know..

Thanks in advanceI don't understand when you say the SATA cable doesn't fit the MBoard...they are all the same.

Also there's a possibility the drive was shipped un-formatted...Windows will not detect it until it's formatted.
It's showing up in the BIOS yes ? ?"Patio" is right. All SATA cables are the same, and no, they are not specific to any drive. If you have the cable correct, try removing the MOBO battery for 30 minutes. Then SNAP it back in and REBOOT. That cleans out the BIOS and post whether the new drive shows up.Right-click My Computer / choose Manage / Choose Disk Management. Do you SEE it there?
