Answer» I have a 500 GIGABYTE maxtor external harddrive. I used it last about a month ago and then packed it and put it away. Now, it won't show up when i connect it to my computer. I have two years of work on it... it is doomed??? what can i do to retrieve my INFORMATION??? HELP!!!! Try it on a powered USB Hub. Or better yet if it can be removed from it's caddy hook it up to an IDE cable internally with it jumpered as slave. Can you hear/feel it spinning up when it starts ? ?And after this is resolved you will know that a hard drive is NEVER a wise choice for the only copy of IMPORTANT files. Back it up to removable media as well.
