Solve : Hard drive issues. I cant delete properly? |
|
Answer» Hey Im just wondering..... when I load something on the comp that if i happen to remove it by a unistall program or manually delete it, yes i cant SEE the files anymore but my hard drive reads the same amount of space taken. Ive emptied the recycle bin, it does nothing. My used space amount keeps going up and up until it pretty much crashes and I have to start over again. Before I formated my comp, when I used to maually delete something the same thing would happen but it never went to the recycle bin, if that helps. And also, my mouse shivers occasionaly. I dont have a wireless mouse and its fairly new, but it was doing it to my old mouse aswell. Any help? Thank u if you can't find it in the control panel (add/remove programs), ikitty has had luck using: search>all files/folders>enter your search. then manually delete from the search program (also, go to the folder and make SURE it is deleted.) Is this the same machine and OS that is having the USB problems ? ? Yeah mate is it the same comp and OS. Its abit of an annoying computer lol. Do u think its safe to do a disk cleanup? Will it be able to handle it? lol Sorry that i posted two topics b4 its just that after i posted the FIRST one i forgot to metion this other stuff and then i was trying to see if i could delete it and put it all in one but i couldnt. Sorrydear wackinternational, ikitty thinks that if you follow the steps provided, it will be fine to do a disc clean-up. good luck!why does ikitty write in the third person all the time? Does ikitty think it is cool? Hehehehe thanks ikitty! Ill give it a whirl and see what happens lol. Just went to your other topic to see if there was a clue about your system and LO! Win98SE. Do you have RegClean on your system? Do a search for it. It is a utility that comes with 98SE and one of the best Reg cleaners for being free. GET rid of all your temp files. Especially those in Internet Temp. If you do, run it. Then Start/shutdown/restart in MS-DOS. When you get to the DOS prompt type after the prompt: cd.. (make sure you use two periods), then after C\: scandisk. It will run a nice system scan and then a deep surface scan. Don't use that freakin' disk clean up thing. The scandisk from the DOS prompt is not only faster, but thorough. When Scandisk is done, the DOS prompt will come back up, type exit. After Windows boots in: Start/Run/defrag. After the defrag, reboot. I hate XP's way of cleaning the hdd. Now, another speculation, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the 'ell ago, I got a virus. It wrote over 300gigs to an 850 hdd. Ghost files, but filled up the hdd. Took awhile to get rid of it. Mostly because I had NO clue what I was doing back then and was scared to death to even open the Registry. Another option, and this is absolutely what I would do with all those problems, reformat. |
