Hi. I have been having a big problem with a newly installed 500GB hard drive. When I first installed it, windows did not DETECT the hard drive and I had to go to drive manager to create a drive letter for it. Whenever I try to put files in it the whole computer freezes and locks up to where I can't even move the mouse and no sounds come out, also the keyboard flashes the LED's on it and then turns off the keyboard but the computer stays on with the screen in place. Whenever I plug it in it WORKS fine if I put a few very small files in it like megabytes in size but if I put a GB or anything like it at ONE time it lacks up my PC. It can handle many GIGS of info but you have to put it in a few megs at a time and whenever you shut the PC down and reboot with the hard drive still attached it wont go past the bios boot up screen.

The problem seems obvious, doesn't it?looks suspicious i know but it actualy has a brand i just cant remember it and the hdd works fine except for the problem describedIf you knew the brand, you could test it with the manufacturer's diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287looked it up its a western digital...somethingFor WD drives you can use the Data Lifeguard Tools for Win or the Seagate Seatools for Win. BTW, Seatools works for most drives. For a 500GB drive it could take many hours.
