Solve : Hard drive missing User file? |
|
Answer» Hi, my computer broke down about 3 months ago so I've been using a laptop ever since. My dad helped me take out the hard drive in my computer and hook it up to my laptop to transfer over some files except that I found that my User folder is missing. My user folder contains over 100 gigabytes of memory. However, when I look at the "properties" of the hard drive I found that 160 gigabytes of space are used but when I count the amount of all the files in the hard drive I find there is only 50 gigabytes. I selected showing hidden folders and files yet I still don't know where the missing 100 some gigabytes are? First, just to avoid any confusion, you are talking about hard drive space not "memory" (two entirely different things). Second, are there specific files you know are missing or are you just worried about the numbers you are reporting? Third, what OS are you using (on the old AND new drives)? The OP may also want to take ownership of the files. I'm missing my user drive that I SPECIFICALLY know that I'm missing. Such as my name is Jay and the my file with everything (my DOCUMENTS, my music, my videos) are all gone. I also know that file Jay has around 100 gigabytes so I think that's the only THING that really is gone. The OP may also want to take ownership of the files.Hence my request for what OS he or she is using. I'm not completely sure by what you mean when you say your "user drive". I'm assuming you mean your user folder. It will be located in the Documents and Settings folder. |
