Solve : Hard Drive Not Dected But it is...??

Answer»

Hello all.  This is my first day POSTING a problem.

I have a single 160 Gig Serial ATA Hard drive.  When I boot my computer I receive the message that no Drives are detected except for my CD-ROM and A: drive.  However the boot process continues to the screen that says "windows was not shut off properly....How would you like to start.  No matter which option I select, the windows log on screen begins with the orange bar going across for about 10-15 seconds.  After that, the whole process starts over.  I selected Safe mode the 2nd time, and it continues to hang at the file:
a347bus.sys.  I've read some other forums and i know this file has to do with the Alcohol burnign program.  They said  I should remove the file and my machine should boot normally.  However I cant get access to the Hard Drive....... Any Suggestions.Just a WAG. Do you have a CD, like a dignostic CD, or a system restore disk, with an OS on it? Could you use this CD to boot the computer now that the primary hd is not detected? That was my initial thought as well.  I tried using ERD commander to boot up, which uses a generic os.  UNFORTUNATELY it did not pick up my hd, only cd rom and a:

I'm confused as to why it wount recognize my hard drive yet the windows loading screen appears....?You mention this is a SATA drive.  The CD-ROM is probably and the floppy drive is an IDE drive.  The BIOS is finding the CD and Floppy because it is autoconfiguring the IDE controller.  My guess would be that your SATA controller, which normally loads later, is not autodetecting or needs some configuration changes.

Always check your connections, and make SURE your controller card is plugin right...this may sound stupid, but it happens more often than not...also if you are trying to connect it to your motherboard make sure it supports it.  If not make sure that the controller cards pins are not bent, MISSING or plugged in correctly.
