Solve : hard drive not recognized in bios suddenly?

Answer»

Hi there,

My XP desktop is about 5 years old and have not had much of a problem until today. I was trying to play a dvd in one of my drives and it was not recognizing any dvd's at all. I tried to see if it was dusty or if anything came unplugged. When I rebooted the cpu it came up with an error similar to "PLEASE choose boot device or enter bootable disc in drive" I WENT into the bios and SAW that my only choices for booting was my floopy and cd-rom. The hard disc drive has disapeared from the bios.
I have tried to unplug the power source and the (lack of the right term) ribbon cable from the drive and plugged it back in. Same problem. It sounds like the hd drive starts up but still is not recognized. Is there a WAY to test if the hdd has crashed or another way to try to get the bios to recognize it?

cheersDid you make SURE the HDD's cable was plugged into your mainboard?
