Answer» i HAVE THIS SITUATION. I had an older hp desktop that started getting the blue screen of death. Problem seemed to be related to a power supply failure. blue screen appeared approx 20 minutes into start. I then purchased another hp, just vista. I would like to take the xp drive and install it in an open bay on the vista machine. Is this possible or should I purchase a rocketfish HD case to see it and manipulate old files. I would really like to see old resumes. Any concerns or ideas. Any help is welcomeNo reason I can think of that you can't put it in the new machine. If it's just to retrieve data...Click Here... If there's an operating system still on the "windows" drive and it's in tact, when booting the new machine it will ask what OS you want to use somebody needs to learn about boot.ini... the boot loader doesn't scan for bootable partitions...new post I guess I am less experienced than I thought. Latest situation.......... I have an older xp/hp. I have a parallel ide hard disk that I have removed and would like to install in a vista/hp. The new vista pc has an ITA hard disk. I took the ide drive and set the jumpers to slave and installed in the vista machine. I did not want the machine to boot to xp. I wanted it to boot to vista and I hoped to manipulate/recover some files from the XP drive. In multiple attempts, it still attempted to boot to XP. I have removed the XP drive and am back where I started. What should I do know. Should I set the Jumper to cable select? What are the issues I have to do to resolve this problem? Again I just want the PC to boot to vista but would like to see the XP/IDE drive to retrieve files. Any help is welcomeDid you ever watch the Tutorial and read the info in the Slave Drive link provided ? ? All the info you need is there. Please note, I see your commentary but see no link, I presume you are speaking of a hyperlink. If yoy are patio mentioned above, how do I see the slave drive link you comment about?look up.SLAVE DRIVE LINK IS OF NO HELP BECAUSE i HAVE ALREADY DONE THIS. As mentioned, The new drive(vista) is a sata drive and has different connectors. However, the ide(xp) drive that I want to be able to see has a spot to connect a parallel cable on the mother board. When I make this connection and start the pc it wants to boot to the xp disk. I want it to boot to vista disk. I have already made the adjustments necessary to the xp disk to make it a slave. This does not work. Something is still letting it be the master. Once I disconnect the cable it will boot to the vista disk. Why does this HAPPEN. Does the sata new disk(vista) have some control here and REQUIRE a conversion kit of some KIND for the IDE drive? Helpchange the boot order. |
