Solve : Harddrive and Motherboard Problem...?

Answer» I have three computers at my house and i want to set up one for like a server. the spex of the server would be:
Speed: 600 mhz
RAM: 390 mb of ram
4 GB Harddrive space..
I wanted to add a 80 GB Hardrive to be as a slave but when i turn the computer on it searches for the harddrives and it finds the 4 gb one but not the 80 gb it searches and searches. and says press F4 to skip.. and it stays for that like 2 mins and it says NONE.. but i have tested the hard drive on the other computer and it works.. so my Q.. is what is the problem.. the IDE Cable is BAD or SOMETHING..
I made the first hardrive jumper settings to be as Master and the slave to be Slave.. thanks..
1. check in bios... secondar master must be "auto"
2. the cpu is old ...mmm... check in bios somewhere is an option autodetect (maybe)
3. remove the old hard drive and connect only the new one ... (dont forget the jumper settings).
4. try to connect both with diffrent cables (dont forget the jumper settings)

What computer or motherboard make/model? Some old Dells and Compaq prefer cable select (CS) designations.

If the drive is good, it either is the connection, the cable or the IDE controller on the motherboard. What if you set the second drive up as a master on the second IDE channel, and the CDOM as a slave on the first?I have an ASUS Motherboard and and the LAST BIOS Update is in Jan 15, 1999 and I used to use the harddrive it was the same harddrive and the same motherboard and it worked before.. i dont know what is going on.. but i will try to CDrom Master and Hardrive Slave and i will post the results..IDE 1 : 4G HDD Master....CD_ROM Slave.
IDE 2 80G HDD Master and whatever is left Slave.

You NEVER want to have a HDD as Slave with a optical drive Master as you will take a serious PERFORMANCE hit.

This will also work another way...

IDE 1 4G HDD Master...80G HDD Slave...
IDE 2 CD-Rom Master and whatever is left Slave.
