Solve : Hardware caught on fire...?

Answer»

So, whilest browsing through chrome, out of nowhere, computer shut down on me After this point, computer would not pass the "loading windows" screen at the boot up. so after few tinkering, not wanting to have a clean re install, I decided to take out and re plug all computer parts, hoping that would fix the problem... but after doing so, well... it caught on fire.....

This is my motherboard, 970 extreme3 studio 3

and this is what happened....  (it is the right top PART.)

after catching fire, I immediately turned the computer off, but...  What is wrong with my computer?

is it... still usable.... T_TThat damaged area appears to be between the ethernet connector/USB ports and your MOSFETs.  At best the ports MAY just be dead but more than likely something has seriously failed on the board and will not be repairable.  How old is the board?  It may still be under warranty.

When you said you "decided to take out and re plug all computer parts", what exactly did you do? I also presume that power was off when you were doing this.

What other parts are in the system?  CPU, PSU.etc. Quote

I have seen smoked parts as a RESULT of live plugging and unplugging, which is caused by spiking parts & traces and causing load balance issues.

I agree with Camerongrays info he shared with you.

If you are lucky you can get a new motherboard and swap out your CPU, RAM, Cards into it and be back up and running. There is no realistic repair for the torched traces that I saw in the picture. If any of the parts are damaged, they should just hold back the new board from booting, but not damage the new board.

* However I have seen once where a video card failed and redirected 12V to the 5V when a 12V trace cooked and when it heated it just happened to glow red hot and then came to rest onto a 5V capacitor near by on the + leg side burning up everything just about on the motherboard that was 5V. A very RARE failure!!!

So be sure to inspect for burned areas or cooked components and smell your video card if you have one in this system to see if it was a similar failure to the one that happened a few years ago. It might smell due to the motherboard that cooked, but if it has a strong spot that stinks, check around that area for damage.
