Answer» I am trying to get my mother-in-laws computer FIXED. The OS on the computer is Windows 98. When I start up the computer, it goes through the boot process, and when it finishes with that it prompts me that Windows has FOUND new hardware for a plug and play monitor, and wants to look for the driver. It won't let me do anything else, so it searches for the driver and TELLS me it finds it. I load the driver and then I get this message Message: This computer has performed an illegal action and will shut down. And that's it, now I can boot in safe mode, the only difference is that it doesn't give me that new hardware wizard, it just goes straight to the message. I can also get to the COMMAND prompt from the special options screen. But that does me no good, unless I have a corrupt driver for the VGA. I'm stuck. Can anyone help?Personally i would up grade to XP homeIs monitor LISTED in Device Manager without any errors?
