okay, so first off i had a poor single core pc (i know) with a 120gb HDD that has windows xp32 bit and 512mb ram, now i've had some money, i have gone out bought basically bought a whole new PC just not a HDD yet.

the motherboard is an ASRock M3A770DE (new)
CPU: amd phenom x4 955 (new)
RAM: 2 transcend 4gb 1333mhz sticks, (8gb) (new)
GPU: ASUS 8800GTX (secondhand from ebay)
HDD: hp 120gb With windows xp 32bit (from old tower)
PSU: alpha 750w (new)
CD drive: one out old HP tower (...)


Right, so i have it in a new pc case, not the best but it works. i have all the stuff in and have a monitor with a VGA connector, with a DVI adapter to fit into the GRAPHICS card.

the monitor shows me what is going on, i can enter BIOS and change stuff around and all that, but when it goes to boot up, it gives a hardware/software issue, with the options of picking the safe modes, last known working config. and start windows normally, but none of these work. what happens is it loads up, i see a glimpse of the XP loading screen, then a Blue screen flashes before going to this hardware error issue.

I've tried setting the HDD to boot first and then the CD-ROM to boot first but nothing, i've put a vista 64bit disc into the CD-ROM and tried uploading s new 64bit windows...

but it keeps coming back to the hardware issue, i've also tried taking one of the 4gb sticks out to see if that works but had no luck either

anyone with a solution on this? even if it doesn't work i'd still be grateful for your INPUT, thanks martinYou can't take the hard drive from one computer & install it into a different computer & expect it to boot.  Windows installation was configured for the hardware that was in the computer when Windows was installed.

Windows XP-32bit will only see about 3GB of the installed RAM.  That's a limitation BUILT into that version of Windows.
Vista64 should be able to be installed, utilizing all the RAM.  Don't know what you mean by "tried uploading s new 64bit windows...".sorry, what i meant by that is, i've got a windows vista 64bit disc in the cd drive, but i can't for some odd reason i can't get the cd to boot so i can put a fresh format and have a new 64bit operating system on the HDDChange Boot Order in BIOS.  CD-ROM 1st, HDD 2nd.that's the thing, it is in that order, yet it won't boot the cd for some reason :sHow old is the CD drive?not 100% on how old, maybe 5 years or more, but it's a HP DVD-writer +R/+RW 4x.

it's been okay installing windows 7, when i wanted to see if it would truly install on a pc with 512mb ramVista & Win7 disks are DVD's, so your HP DVD writer should read them.

You said you are trying to install Vista.on the old system i installed 32bit windows 7 fine, but went back to windows xp because of the RAM.

But i have a copy of vista i am trying to put on nowWhat does it say "exactly" on the Vista disc?  I don't think it's a bootable disc.Try reading this2nd time you've spammed that Help site...
