Solve : Hardware Upgrade.?

Answer»

Hey all

So I was wondering with the Holidays coming up what piece of my COMPUTER needs the most upgrade?

Specs:

MB: Asus P5N-E SLI
GPU: EVGA 7600GT 256mb
CPU: Pent 4 3.2 GHZ
RAMN: 1 GB of Corsair

I'm a big gamer and play games such as WoW/Oblivion/UT3

Thanks

I pretty much came here to make sure. What do you think about

well, if you motherboard supports it, you need to get a geforce 8800 GT 512 mb. Don't take my word for it. Read the reviews and make your own mind up. If you have the cash, get an 8800GT.
If not, the 8600GT will also do, but the 8800GT is far better value for money.
Another 1Gb of RAM would be fairly inexpensive and would help with newer games.
Finally, a new CPU may also help, but it's not such a bottleneck right now. Quote from: CALUM on December 03, 2007, 11:17:22 AM

i second the extra gig of RAM. i have 2 gigs and even with a 768mb graphics card, i use about 80% of it while playing crysis. Things to get (this holiday season):

1. A new graphics card - 8800 GT

2. An extra 1024MB of identical RAM

3. A new CPU - E2180

Total: 350-400$ Quote from: Calum on December 03, 2007, 11:17:22 AM

REPENT!  As the system stands right now, the CPU is not a bottleneck.
With a new graphics card and 2GB of RAM, it will become a bottleneck.
An E2140/60/80 is cheap and will increase performance, but a new graphics card and more RAM should be a higher priority.what about overclocking the CPU? Quote from: Eredell on December 05, 2007, 04:31:12 PM

go for it. but you might WISH to invest in an after market cooling solution if you wish to overclock it. Quote from: homer on December 05, 2007, 05:07:36 PM

Close, but the correct answer is you must have aftermarket cooling, if you have to ask wether to overclock or not. Quote from: Jess607 on December 06, 2007, 01:27:57 AM

sorry to object, but you do not need an aftermarket cooling solution to overclock. it is a good idea though, as overclocking with a stock cooler will have a large effect on how high you can overclock. Quote from: homer on December 06, 2007, 05:12:29 PM

No, you do need an aftermarket cooler for a 65nm Quad-Core CPU. If you don't want to burn your house down, it's needed.
