Solve : Has the Laser Died in My CD Drive ??

Answer»

I have an aging TOSHIBA laptop computer with a combination DVD/CDRW.

I use it for PLAYING back DVD films all the time.

A couple of days ago I tried to play a photo CD in it. It span the disc but showed no data. I have since tried a software CD and a music CD and am getting the same result.

The DVDs are still O.K.

I believe it is the case that DVDs and CDs use different lasers, so is it LIKELY that I have a hardware fault where the (hardly used) CD laser has blown ?

Sounds like time for a NEW DRIVE, if you can find one that fits. Quote

Yes.you may try buying a cd drive cleaner. no guarantees though. . i personally perfer to take apart the drive and clean the laser with a shami cloth. it does a better job.
