Answer» I have installed at Western Digital 320GB HD, but it does not show up in My Computer, and I am not able to ACCESS it. It is installed using an ATA cable, whereas the HD that IS working is an 82GB that I actually installed to be the slave to the WD 320GB, but somehow became the master and the only HD working (the 82GB is installed using an IDE cable, and is listed as "Disk 1").
When I go to the "disk management" (CONTROL panel, admin tools, computer management), I do see the WD 320GB listed as Disk 0 (it's listed "298 GB, unallocated"). I hear it TURN on and run when I click on the "populate" button in the properties tab.
How can I get the WD HD to show up and work as the master and the 82GB as the slave? How do I transfer/mirror the data that is already on the 82GB to the WD?
Thank you for your time and help.
Computer SPECS: HP Pavilion running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 The Western Digital Data Lifeguard tools include a tool for "cloning" your old drive to the new one... They are Free on their site or they would be on the CD that shipped with the drive.
It's probably not showing up in Windows since it's not formatted yet... If it's showing in Disk Management then the drive is working. That was just too easy. Thank you for the help. I thought that the HD formatted automatically after INSTALLATION.
BTW, on the properties tab, it shows that 78MBs is already used and I have not put anything on it! Do you know why that is? Also, it shows that the capacity is 298GB, instead of the 320GB - what happens to that 22GB?
One last question - should I partition the HD or just have it as a 'simple volume'?
