Solve : HD jumpers set wrong?

Answer»

I bought a WD 80 Gig HD recently, and accidentally set the jumpers wrong so it only shows up as being a 32 Gig in my BIOS and to XP. Can I set the jumpers to where they are supposed to be and leave it at that, or will it screw up XP? Do I have to wipe the drive, fix the jumpers and then START over?

Thanks,
JonI don't know.. Why not try it and get back with the results :-?gmcfan..... How about some specs on the pc ........
What size was the HD that you replaced ?
What bios are you using ?

That is what I would do without a doubt. Quote

2000 Dell Optiplex
Stock HD was a 13 Gig
Updated the bios to a 2003 revision about 6 months ago

I reread the manual that came with the drive, it said that by using the jumper settings I did made it default to 32 gigs.

So now my next dumb question: How do I wipe this drive? I tried uninstalling windows from the add/remove LIST but it's not there. Can I go into DOS and use the format c:\ command?Quote

No, that won't work. Boot from your genuine XP CD and follow the on-screen prompts to format and do a clean install..

Good luckI BOOTED from the CD, I don't see anything about formatting. It has a repair option and such, but NOTHING about reformatting :-?
